The flagship battery storage project commenced operations on February 1, only days before cutting ties with the Russian power grid. Estonian state-owned energy company Eesti Energia has inaugurated the nation’s largest battery energy storage facility at the Auvere industrial complex in Ida-Viru County.

Eesti’s first procurement failed, with the second successfully completed in January 2024. Battery storage costs have evolved rapidly over the past several years, necessitating an update to storage cost projections used in long-term planning models and other activities. This work documents the development of these projections, which are based on recent publications of storage costs.
