1. Classification according to different energy storage mechanisms According to different energy storage mechanisms, supercapacitors can be divided into symmetric supercapacitors, asymmetric supercapacitors, and hybrid supercapacitors. 2. Classification according to different electrolytes
A supercapacitor has a high power density, a rapid charge and discharge cycle, and a very long cycle life, which makes it ideal for battery storage and energy release. Electrochemical processes enable supercapacitors to achieve significantly higher capacitance values than conventional capacitors that rely on electrostatic charge storage.
This configuration aims to enhance energy and power density, as well as to achieve greater cycle life. Ultimately, the goal is to leverage the strengths of both types of electrodes to optimize the performance of the supercapacitor assembly.
Hybrid SCs are a combination of EDLCs and pseudocapacitors. Initially, all electrochemical capacitors were called “double−layer capacitors”, but they are now part of a larger family called SCs. Figure 2. Classification of supercapacitors.
