Delhi is also the only state to shut down all its thermal power plants and shift its industry to clean fuels. According to an IEEFA report, Delhi has just 9% of renewables in the power mix, with a huge percentage of renewable energy potential still being untapped (86%).
In an order issued on August 1, 2025, the Union Ministry of Power announced the dissolution of the Solar Energy Central Pool and the Solar-Wind Hybrid Central Pool. These pools, set up in February 2024, were designed to standardise tariffs for clean energy projects for three years under the Uniform Renewable Energy Tariff (URET) mechanism.
The announcement of national wind-solar hybrid policy in India has attracted project developers for the deployment of new hybrid power plants as well as the repowering of existing standalone projects. In an absolute sense, a hybrid energy system combines wind and solar energy systems with additional storage mechanisms.
This policy will apply to any solar energy generating system with a capacity of 1 kWp or more. It applies to all electricity consumers and entities that set up or operate solar power projects in Delhi.
