A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project is an energy storage technology that uses rechargeable batteries to store electrical energy from various sources and release it when needed, functioning like a large-scale rechargeable battery that stabilizes the grid and enables renewable energy integration. It has 9.4GW of energy storage to its name with more than 225 energy storage projects scattered across the globe, operating in 47 markets. It also operates 24.1GW of AI-optimised renewables and storage, applied in some of the most demanding industrial applications.
With the performance of lithium batteries significantly improving over the past few years and the iteration of multiple technology routes accelerating, the energy storage industry has achieved scaled development, said Chen Haisheng, chairman of China Energy Storage Alliance.
