The Dodoma Integrated and Sustainable Transport project (DIST) is taking shape and is expected to transform Tanzania’s capital. The World Bank has pledged a $200 million loan to guarantee its implementation. The money is set to improve roads and public transport, releasing economic opportunities for Dodoma’s rapidly growing population.
Tanzania has implemented a definite plan to implement the Dodoma Integrated and Sustainable Transport project effectively. Various government institutions will oversee different aspects of the project. Road development will be done by the Tanzania National Roads Agency and the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency.
In order to achieve the above-mentioned objectives, the project involves widening of an additional two-lane road beside the existing two-lane road in section 2-2, which is part of the inner ring road in Dodoma City, and construction of a new two-lane road in section 3.
The World Bank has pledged a $200 million loan to guarantee its implementation. The money is set to improve roads and public transport, releasing economic opportunities for Dodoma’s rapidly growing population. The city is increasing by 6.4% annually, with nearly a million people as of 2023.
