In order to provide grid services, inverters need to have sources of power that they can control. This could be either generation, such as a solar panel that is currently producing electricity, or storage, like a battery system that can be used to provide power that was previously stored.
The existing communication technologies, protocols and current practice for solar PV integration are also introduced in the report. The survey results show that deployment of communication and control systems for distributed PV systems is increasing.
In the report, the communication and control system architecture models to enable distributed solar PV to be integrated into the future smart grid environment were reviewed. The communication between the inverter and the monitoring platform relies on a communication protocol in terms of software and mainly uses a monitoring stick module as a medium or bridge for data transmission and reception in terms of hardware. This ensures that the inverter’s operation can be displayed on the monitoring and maintenance platform.
