Conclusion In this review paper, we have set forth a brief overview of the most advanced generation of solar cell technology, i.e., fourth-generation solar cells, that consist mainly of 2D material-based solar cells, quantum dot-based solar cells, perovskite solar cells, organic solar cells and dye-sensitised solar cells.
