The facility is the first utility-scale renewable energy project in Cape Town and the first-of-its-kind in South Africa to be owned and operated by a city.
The City of Cape Town has launched construction of a 7-10 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Atlantis, in the Western Cape Province. To be developed at a cost of approximately $11.3 million, construction is expected to be completed within a year.
The facility is the first utility-scale renewable energy project in Cape Town and the first-of-its-kind in South Africa to be owned and operated by a city. Since construction on the project began in October 2024, around 2 400 solar panels have been installed.
