• New Zealand’s electrical and electronic products exported to China need to undergo the same tests, inspections and certifications as other products produced and sold in China.
These provisions protect the competitive position of New Zealand and China into the future by ensuring that others who negotiate free trade agreements with China in the future do not end up with better conditions than apply to New Zealand businesses. See Annex 9 for more detail on these provisions.
New Zealand is the first developed country to conclude a bilateral free trade agreement with China, and the China-New Zealand FTA is the first comprehensive and high-level free trade agreement that China has signed, covering broad areas such as goods, services, investment, movement of people and standard recognition.
