Richard Yu, head of Huawei's automotive business, rolled out the model, which is available in both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) versions and battery electric vehicle (BEV) versions, at a launch event today. The Aito M9 EREV is available in Max and Ultra versions, with starting prices of RMB 469,800 ($65,750) and RMB 529,800, respectively.
Huawei’s breakthrough is based on a nitrogen-doped sulfide solid-state battery, which claims to reach energy densities between 400 and 500 watt-hours per kilogram (Wh/kg). That’s about 2 to 3 times more than the energy density of most current lithium-ion EV batteries.
Huawei’s entry into the EV battery market adds momentum to an already competitive space. Its solid-state battery offers up to 500 Wh/kg in energy density and charges in just five minutes. This could set new industry standards and urge competitors to accelerate their development.
Co developed by Huawei and Seres as an extended range electric SUV with both EREV and pure BEV choices to suit different charging realities. Base EREV Pro plus 5 seat 4WD trim launches with a starting tag near US$ 39490 (34040 EUR, 29973 GBP), carving out an attainable path into the premium new energy vehicle tier.
